Introduction

Immigrants face similar if not more challenges as the native citizens of a country when looking for employment opportunities. This means that the code of ethics of employment should apply also to the immigrants. This paper will analyze the Guideline to Professional Conduct (1978) in relation to the immigrants.

2 Principles found in the Guideline for Professional Conduct

The Guideline for Professional Conduct was implemented by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (1). It regulates the conduct of those in that industry. One of the policies found in the Guideline for Professional Conduct is that any member of the institute can only offer professional counsel and opinion if it is founded on honest conviction and adequate knowledge (AIAA American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1)

Another policy is that a member is expected “to uphold the dignity and honor of his profession” (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1). He is, therefore, expected to be modest and dignified in explaining his work to members of the public.

Strength and Weakness of the Policy

The policy like all legislative policies has strengths and weaknesses. One of the strengths of the policy is that it includes the relationship between the professionals and the general public. This helps the members not to be alienated by members of the public. This includes immigrants and the natives (AIAA American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1)

A weakness of the policy is that it separates the profession from the other scientists and engineers. This preludes the idea of preferential treatment.

The policy also includes the relationship between professionals. This ensures that they respect each other and each other’s work. Seeing as this is a profession that is mostly based on individual effort, respect for other people’s work regardless of their race or origin is a good addition (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1)

Conclusion

The policy regulates the way business is done by Aeronautics and Astronautics. It makes all the members of the institute equal and hence there are no specific rules and regulations for immigrants.
